A lecture addressing two of the diseases that most drive people away from their jobs - “Anxiety and Depression” - opened the allusive activities to Yellow September at Prati-Donaduzzi, on Monday (16). About 80 employees participated in the chat with the psychologist, Rodrigo Bonetti. Until Wednesday (18), topics such as valuing life, self-love and self-esteem will be discussed.

This is the first time that the pharmaceutical industry promotes activities related to Suicide Prevention Month. According to the Human and Organizational Development (DHO) supervisor, Aline Gorris, the company decided to develop the action due to the large number of people being pushed away by emotional difficulties.

“Talking about depression, anxiety and other emotionally related illnesses is still taboo. We decided to talk. Show, even, that there is a support network in the company and in the city, prepared to assist them”, said Aline.

Nowadays, there are 11 million Brazilians with depression in the country.

Depression is not all bad

According to the psychologist, the diagnosis of depression or anxiety can be seen as a new opportunity. A call to action. This means, people need to change the way they are thinking, which can initiate a physical action to control an area of life.

In Bonetti's understanding, it is a precious moment, because every human being lives moments of anxiety and sadness, but it is seen as common. When someone is diagnosed with pathology, life is a plausible justification for reshaping his/her attitudes in order to stop and take care of body and mind.

“In everyday life, society has no justification. Life is a pain, but you have to go on. When someone is diagnosed with anxiety and depression, this person can stop, look at him/herself and review what may change. Instead of being a problem, it may be a possibility”, he explained.

For the psychologist, the important thing about this situation is to take care to be surrounded by people prepared to assist him/her. Instead of closing in, get help.

“The ideal is to bring the world closer to me, instead of pushing me away. Being around professionals who can help me”, he said.

 How to identify

During the lecture, Bonetti put the audience to participate. He applied the Dass Scale, a 21-question quiz that helps identify emotions. If the result is higher than 30 points, it shows the need to seek help.

For Fabiana Santos Delava, from Recruitment and Selection Department, it was a great experience. “It's important to take care of mental health, because it rules us. If the mind is well, the body reacts better. Prati's initiative is commendable”, she said.
